Cupid, draw back your bow…

Welsh Secretary Peter Hain is a man of many roles. He doubles up in the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and is also, I’m told, a memorable after-dinner speaker. Furthermore, he has a new, self-appointed job as peacemaker between the devo-sceptics and the devo-ultras.
But when he isn’t doing that, he’s playing cupid. It turns out that Mr Hain was the man who introduced Sian Lloyd to her fiancee, Jonathan Ashman (read all about it here).
At last night’s Wales Office Christmas bash (where last year Ms Lloyd and Mr Ashman met among the throng), Mr Hain was offering his help again. “Just circle around, mingle, see if there’s anyone you like,” he suggested.
Crikey. I didn’t know it was that sort of party. I only turned up for a glass of Tetley’s and to talk about Legislative Competence Orders.
